A collection of poetry by the engraver William James Linton.
With the play Claribel, and the poems The Old Legend of King Arthur, The Ruined City, Natures Gentleman, The Advent of Peace, Two Stories of One Fate, Principle and Opinion, and more.
Illustrated with head and tail pieces throughout, illustrated by the author.
William James Linton was an Englishman who emigrated to America to try his fortune, after suffering from financial difficulties in England. He is said to have reached the highest point of execution in engraving in wood.
CONDITION
In the original publishers cloth binding. Externally, with a crack to the tail of the front joint. Light marking to the boards. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Label to the rear pastedown. Hinges are starting but firm. Prior owners ink inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper, ... from her loving Uncle J.E.D. Christmas 1870. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are with some spots and handling marks, heavier to the first and last few pages.
