In fair condition. Cloth boards normally scuffed at edges and worn/bumped at corners. Heads and tails of spines bumped; gilt lettering and deco on spines normally dulled but overall attractive. Cloth spines tanned from shelf-wear & sun exposure. Top edges gilt. Fore-edges deckled. Previous ownership signatures found on top edges of title pages, in ink. Very light toning to edges of leaves throughout text-blocks. Off-setting/sticker residue found on bottom edges of rear boards. Bindings intact. Frank Richard Stockton (1834 – 1902) was an American writer and humorist, best known today for a series of innovative childrens fairy tales that were widely popular during the last decades of the 19th century. Stockton avoided the didactic moralizing common to childrens stories of the time. Instead, he humorously poked fun at greed, violence, abuse of power and other human foibles, describing his fantastic characters adventures in a charming, matter-of-fact way in stories like The Griffin and the Minor Canon (1885) and The Bee-Man of Orn (1887).
